Responsive polymersomes

Polymersomes closely mimic liposomes in structure and morphology. As compared to liposomes, polymersomes have usually greater stability and better control over physiochemical properties including membrane thickness, permeability, fluidity and surface functionality. Polymersomes can load not only hydrophobic drugs (e.g. docetaxel and paclitaxel) but also hydrophilic drugs (e.g. doxorubicin hydrochloride, protein drugs, and nucleic acids). However, current polymersomes are typically plagued with low drug loading content, inferior in vivo stability, and poor control over drug release. We have designed a series of multifunctional biodegradable polymersomes for efficient loading and tumor-targeting delivery of small water soluble anticancer drugs, protein drugs and nucleic acid drugs.
