Soochow University Biomedical Polymers Laboratory (BMP) was established in 2007 and currently consists of 7 staff members, 3 chair professors, 1 postdoctoral fellow, and 46 graduate students. BMP lab has been set to undertake groundbreaking research and development on delivery systems and targeted cancer nanomedicines that may eventually lead to successful clinical translation. BMP lab has published over 170 papers with more than 12000 times of citation, among which 20 papers are listed as ESI highly cited papers and 3 papers are awarded top 100 most cited Chinese papers published in international journals (Institute of Scientific and Technical Information of China). 5 staff members have been listed as Highly Cited Researchers by Clarivate Analytics in Pharmacology/Toxicology in 2018 and 4 staff members have been listed as Highly Cited Researchers in Cross-Field in 2019. BMP lab has filed over 50 Chinese and International patents, among which 11 patents have been licensed to BrightGene. BMP lab has co-founded a biomedical company, AK Cell Biopharma Co., Ltd., together with BrightGene, focusing on development and clinical translation of proprietary delivery technology.

The research of BMP is strongly supported by the National Natural Science Foundation of China (NSFC), the Natural Science Foundation of Jiangsu Province, and BrightGene. BMP lab has established a strong international collaboration and/or joint PhD program with many research groups. BMP lab has successfully organized the 1st-5th Symposium on Innovative Polymers for Controlled Delivery (SIPCD 2010, 2012, 2014, 2016, 2018) in Suzhou, China, which has been recognized as one of the top international conferences in biomedical polymers, drug delivery, and pharmaceutics. The 6th Symposium on Innovative Polymers for Controlled Delivery (SIPCD 2020) will be held in September 18-21, 2020.
